Betta World For Bettas - April 2026 Updates

Betta Advocate Community

This month, we’ve been working hard to line up educational content and expert perspectives to share in the coming months. We’ve also been focused on cultivating our community of betta fish advocates to strengthen our network and expand our impact.

Shipment of Betta Fish - Beyond The Cups

This month, we shared photographs sent to us by an anonymous chain store employee showing the bags betta fish are shipped in. The post sparked an important conversation about what betta fish, and pet fish more broadly, experience before they reach store shelves. While cup displays are a visible welfare concern, they are not the whole picture. Part of our work is raising awareness about the hidden steps in the supply chain and continuing to push for higher standards of care throughout it.

Ask PetSmart to End Goldfish Deliveries Through DoorDash

We’re calling on PetSmart to stop offering live goldfish through DoorDash. This practice raises a number of welfare concerns and adds yet another layer of stress and disregard for animals whose lives are already too often overlooked.

UC Berkeley Presentation

This month, Founder and Executive Director Ariel Heinicke gave a presentation to the Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy (BOAA) at UC Berkeley, speaking with students about the work Betta World For Bettas is doing to advance fish advocacy and improve betta fish welfare in Berkeley.
