Growing the Conversation Around Fish Welfare
This month, we’ve continued learning from and speaking with people working on fish welfare around the world. These conversations have explored topics from fish health and prevention to how fish are treated across the trade, and we look forward to sharing more soon.
Behind the scenes, we’re working to build future advocacy efforts, educational resources, and community projects to help create long-term change for betta fish.
Interview on Fish Welfare in India
Watch our interview with animal advocate Ayaan Ali Siddiqui on ornamental fish welfare in India. Ayaan shares how he and colleague Ishita Gondli challenged decorative fish tunnel displays at a carnival in Bhopal, a first-of-its-kind case that helped bring attention to fish welfare under Indian law. He also discusses their paper, “Beyond Aesthetics: Addressing Ornamental Fish Welfare in India,” which explores welfare concerns across India’s ornamental fish trade.

Fish Welfare Research Library
We’re building a growing Fish Welfare Research Library to compile studies and articles on fish sentience, pain perception, betta fish welfare, and related topics. This resource is still in development, and we look forward to expanding it over time as part of our educational work for advocates.
Welcoming Our New Board Secretary
We’re happy to welcome Lori Flint to the Betta World For Bettas Board as Secretary. Lori has already been supporting our newsletter and communications, and we’re grateful for the care and organization she brings as we continue building the foundation for our work.
Bonfire Store Launched
Our Bonfire store is now live! You can order a Betta World for Bettas t-shirt or mug to help support our mission. Proceeds help fund our operating expenses and ongoing work to improve the lives of betta fish.
