Every year, countless live fish are given away as prizes at carnivals, fairs, and other games. Too often, these animals suffer from improper handling, inadequate care, neglect, and preventable deaths.
Betta World For Bettas has been working with NYC Council Members Vickie Paladino and Frank Morano to support legislation that would ban live fish as prizes.
This proposed legislation would amend the administrative code, which currently prohibits animals from being awarded as prizes but excludes fish.
Similar legislation has passed in the city of Berkeley, CA, which banned the practice of awarding live fish as prizes in 2017.
